Qualification outcome
Areas of Competence: Knowledge and Understanding; Use, application and generation of knowledge; Communication and cooperation; Scientific self-understanding / professionalism.
After successful participation, the students have a good understanding of the term competence in general and the competences required to deal with the challenges and opportunites of globalisation in particular. In doing so, students know about the importance of the sustainable development goals (SDG) for global learning.
They know and can utilize methods of how to pass on these competences to young learners, with a particular focus on methods of service learning and embedded learning. Using practical examples, students have an understanding of concepts on how they can use elements of service and embedded learning in their everyday professional life to promote the development of global competences.
Content information
The module is made up of three parts, each of which is completed en bloc on one weekend.
On the first weekend, we deal with the question of which competences young people need in order to be able to make their own contribution to peaceful coexistence and sustainable development in an increasingly globalised world. We will look in detail at embedded and service learning as two interesting types of experience based learning.
The second part will include an excursion and/or field work in groups.
On the third weekend, students will present projects from their home countries in which global competences are taught, be it at schools or in open youth work. Ideas of learning through practical activity (embedded learning) or learning through engagement (service learning) are of particular interest. These presentations are prepared independently by the students in working groups between the first and third course. We discuss and evaluate the different projects and develop our own teaching module on how we can contribute to the development of global competences in dealing with young adults.
